Hmmm...I'm a hardcore iPodder...so not sure I can condone the purchase of a Zune...however...I'm not all that jazzed about spending moola on faux follicles...
But! It's not between an iPod and a Zune. It's between a Zune and a Zune. I've owned two iPods now and while I guess they're ok I really loved playing with a Zune at CES; the GUI is so much more fun and (imo) it's easier to use. So, that might make it harder (for you, anyway ;D).
Zune is more practical, as (as far as I know) you'll get more use out of it. I say go for it. At least this way, you wouldn't be stuck in the same position should you decide to change your hair color again.
I am an MCSE and was a hard sell on them but once I bought my first mac to tinker with, I was sold. The stability is worth it to me when compared to all of the PC's that I have used in my life.
Did MS ever work out all of the kinks in the Zune? Gizmodo and a lot of the other tech sites were really tearing it up when it first came out. I like some of the features on it and was interested until it released and started getting slammed.
I don't need a lifestyle or rhetoric or a Volkswagon, I need a computer. Thus, Macs are not for me.
As far as I know in terms of firmware, yeah, they've put out several upgrades that has doctored the major problems pretty well. Microsoft doesn't usually get things really right until at least the second time around and I was going to hold my horses and wait and see if they did a later release for a reason other than adding additional colors but I've got ants in the pants.

BTW, hate volkswagons love the mac. For me, it is the best computer I have ever owned in terms of reliability and stability. PC's are cool and I would buy one again as a home server with linux installed but until I see major improvement and innovation from MS, I will only use their OS when forced to at work. That being said, MS did a fantastic job with the OS on the XBox so, I have not kicked them to the curb when it comes to appliances or electronics.

I have neither. Hm. I've never been interested in an mp3 player of any kind, besides my 'puter.
